  • 1 March - HCCMOAA Board of Directors' Meeting

  • 4 March - Hero's On The Mountain/ Wounded Warrior Event
    • The Appalachian Mountain Ski Patrol is hosting their 5th annual "Hero's On The Mountain" Wounded Warrior event at Appalachian Ski Mountain in Blowing Rock. The MOAA High Country Chapter is one of the sponsors of this event. Appalachian Ski Mountain is providing all Wounded Warriors and their family members with complimentary ski passes and ski/snowboard lessons throughout the day. Prior to their hitting the slopes there will be an official welcome, guest speaker and flag raising ceremony to honor the Wounded Warriors for their sacrifice and service to our nation. During the flag ceremony Team Dynamix, an aerial flight demonstration group of former military pilots will perform several formation flights over Appalachian Ski Mountain. This year's guest speaker will be Vietnam veteran, Silver Star recipient, and wounded warrior himself, Mr. Tony diSanti, Attorney at Law from Boone, North Carolina. The event begins at 0830 Saturday morning. On the upper lodge outside deck and ski slope in front of the lodge. All HCC MOAA members are invited to attend the opening ceremony and come meet the Wounded Warriors in attendance. Any MOAA members who would like to assist with carrying our huge American flag during the opening ceremony please contact CAPT Chuck Rhodes.

  • 21 March - Boone Area Chamber of Commerce Press Conference
    • Where: Appalachian Mountain Brewery, Boone, North Carolina
    • To announce the creation of a strategic partnership between the Boone-based We Can So You Can Foundation and CACI International.

      Established in 2013, the We Can So You Can Foundation has supported revitalization efforts in local communities, mountains, and rivers. In the Spring of 2017, the foundation will host its 2nd-annual Camp Healing Waters. This first of its kind multi-day destination camp for military families addresses not only the physical and emotional healing needs of participating veterans and their spouses, but also introduces training on life skills necessary to deal with the long term challenges that these disabled heroes and their families face.
