General Membership Meeting, 21 April 2011

 

  1. The general membership meeting for the High Country Military Officers Association, Inc. was called to order by LtCol George Brudzinski, USMC (RET), President of the Association, at 1900 on 21 April 2011 at the  Fairway Restaurant (Boone Golf Course) in Boone, North Carolina.

  1. Approval of Minutes:  The minutes of the 17 February 2011 general membership meeting were reviewed and approved without change
  1. Secretary’s Report:  LTC Dave Garvin

    High Country Chapter members, who have not paid their annual Chapter dues for two (2) years, will be “dropped” from Chapter membership and reported the MOAA National.

  2. Treasurer’s Report:  MAJ Dinah Pinney
    1. Administrative Account -                   $4,180
    2. Scholarship Account -                         $5,208
    3. Total Cash On Hand -                         $9,388
    4. Actions:
      1. Two (2) World War II veterans were sponsored by the High Country Chapter, MOAA, for an Honor Air flight to Washington, DC. Cost was six hundred dollars ($600)
      2. A five hundred dollars ($500) scholarship was presented to an Appalachian State University ROTC cadet at the annual military ball.

    1. Golf Tournament:  The High Country Chapter, MOAA, will sponsor a golf tournament, as a fund raising event, at the Boone Golf Club on 5 May 2011.  The Appalachian Regional Medical Center Cancer Center and the Relay for Life will receive funds from this event.  Golf teams and volunteers are needed for this event.
    2. Relay for Life:  The High Country Chapter will again participate in the Watauga County Relay for Life on 17 June 2011 beginning at 1630.  The High Country Chapter will again “parade” the service flags of the five (5) armed services at the head of the survivors lap.  Chapter members are needed for the team.  The event will be held at the new Watauga High School.
    3. Town of Boone Memorial Day Observation:  The High Country Chapter, MOAA will again sponsor the Town of Boone Memorial Day Observation at the Boone Mall on 30 May 2011.  Major General Charles McCartney will be the featured speaker.
    4. Blue Star Mothers Pancake Breakfast:  The Blue Star Mothers organization will sponsor a pancake breakfast at Applebees Restaurant to raise funds for mailing packages to Iraq and Afghanistan. 
    5. Christmas in July Picnic:  The next general membership meeting of the High Country Chapter will be a picnic at George Brudzinski’s residence in Todd on 9 July 2011 from 1600 to 2000.  It will be a “pig picking” augmented by covered dishes.  This event will be a family affair with children and grandchildren invited.

  5. Adjournment:  There being no further business, the general membership meeting of the High Country Military Officers Association, Inc. was adjourned at 2030 to meet again on 9 July 2011 at the residence of George Brudzinski in Todd, NC, or at the call of the President.
