Board of Directors Meeting, 17 March, 2010
- The Board of Directors meeting for the High Country Military Officers Association, Inc. was called to order by CPT (Frm) Nicholas Friedman, USA, President of the Association, at 1200 on 17 March 2010 at the Broyhill Inn and Conference Center, Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina.

- Approval of Minutes: There were no minutes of previous meetings available for review by the Board of Directors.
- Treasurer’s Report: MAJ (R) Dinah Pinney
- Administrative Account - $7,230.15
- Scholarship Account - $1,815.62
- Total Cash On Hand - $9,045.77
- Actions:
- The treasurer’s report was approved as presented.
- The Board of Directors approved a one hundred dollars ($100) donation to the Relay for Life in memory of Dottie Reneau, wife of Chapter member LTC (Ret) Bob Reneau, USAF.
- Fund Raising:
- A set of silver ingots, donated by COL Benjamin Cunningham, will be raffled off as a fund raiser.
- A second Casa Rustica Restaurant luncheon will be considered.
- Old Business:
- Relay for Life (MAJ Dinah Pinney): The High Country Chapter will again participate in the Relay for Life (cancer awareness and research) on 18 & 19 June 2010.
- The event will again be at the old Watauga High School Athletic Facility.
- A registration commitment fee for each Chapter participant of ten dollars ($10) per person must be received by 12 April 2010.
- Each participant will be expected to raise or donate a minimum of one hundred dollars ($100).
- The High Country Chapter, Military Officers Association of America, will again “parade” the flags of the five (5) armed services.
- Cancelled Christmas Party: Since Hound Ears Club cancelled the Christmas Party, there was no debt incurred by the High Country Chapter. Next year the party will be scheduled on an earlier date.
- JROTC Unit: The Watauga County School District has submitted an application for an Army JROTC unit for the new high school...
- New Business:

- Memorial Day Ceremony: The High Country Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America will again, sponsor the Memorial Day Ceremony in Boone.
- The Community Band has been scheduled to perform.
- The Boone Mall has been scheduled.
- MG Skip McCartney will be asked to be the keynote speaker.
- John Alley will be responsible for contacting the National Guard.
- Nick Friedman will work on advertising.
- Todd’s Calendar: Todd’s Calendar will “post” High Country Chapter events without charge.
- State Representative Cully Tarlton is joining the High Country Chapter as a regular member.
- New River Chapter, MOAA: The secretary was requested to insure that the New River Chapter (Ashe County) was added to the High Country Chapter distribution list and invited to attend all High Country Chapter events.
- Blue Star Mothers: A local chapter of the Blue Star Mothers has been established. There are approximately ten (10) mothers in this chapter. The High Country Chapter webmaster will be requested to establish a “link” on the HCC web-site to the Blue Star Mothers.
- Appalachian State University Military Ball: The annual ROTC Military Ball is scheduled for 30 April 2010. High Country Chapter members are invited to attend. Further information to follow.
- MOAA Gold Bar Program: Appalachian State University will commission eighteen (18) cadets this year. The first commissioning ceremony will be 7 May 2010. Eighteen (18) sets of 2LT bars have been requested under the MOAA Gold Bar program. MOAA HQ has acknowledged this request and the insignia will arrive before the commissioning ceremony.
- Adjournment: There being no further business, the board of directors meeting of the High Country Military Officers Association, Inc. was adjourned at 1255 to meet again on 7 April 2010 at the Broyhill Inn and Conference Center or at the call of the President.
