Board of Directors Meeting, 13 October 2011

  1. The Board of Directors meeting for the High Country Military Officers Association, Inc. was called to order by LtCol George Brudzinski, USMC (RET), President of the Association, at 1204 on 13 October 2011 at Beef O’Brady’s Restaurant in Boone, North Carolina.
  1. Officers Present:

LTC Ron Branch – Asst Treasurer

1st Lt Seth Norris - Chaplain

    1. Secretary’s Report:

      The Secretary was out of town

    2. Treasurer’s Report:  MAJ (Ret) Dinah Pinney
      1. Current Status of Accounts
        1. Balance as of last report - $9,047.40
        2. $170 paid to 1861 Farm House for wine tasting
        3. Interest on both accounts - $4.97
        4. Current Chapter Scholarship Account - $5,289.34
        5. Current Checking Account - $3,393.03
        6. Current Balance - $8,882.37
    1. Old Business:
      1. General Membership Meeting at the 1861 Farm House:
        1. The board would like to thank Dennis and Olivia Ray for all they did in setting up this event.
        2. We had a great response of our members and attendees expressed their enjoyment of the event.
        3. We need to keep moving on these sorts of experiences - let's keep moving forward.

      2. Veteran's Day Ceremony - 11 November 2011:
        1. Mall set-up. “Walk through” scheduled for 9 November.
        2. Program agenda discussed.
        3. Seth will give the benediction
        4. Color guard set.
        5. George wants folks to touch base with various military organizations in the area:
          1. Sonny - speak with Blue Star Mothers, and others
          2. John - contact 1451st, Disabled American Veterans
          3. Nick - contact WWII vets
        6. Nick - take care of 300 chairs - contact Chris
        7. Guest speaker - TBA.
        8. Formal ceremony 1100.
        9. Community Band 1030.

      3. General Membership Meeting - 8 December - Home Builders Association Hall:
        1. Covered dish - chapter supplies ham and turkey.
        2. Dinah will control silent auction items.
          1. Bring the night of the event.
          2. Discussion of the worth of items to be considered.
          3. Purpose is to offset the cost of renting the facility.
        3. Instead of a speaker - members can bring up stories of holiday periods.

    2. New Business:
      1. Fund Raiser - 1st quarter 2012:  Golf tournament in May - 2nd quarter.
      2. Applebees - pancake breakfast in late February/early March
        1. Need placement advertisements
        2. Ron to coordinate.
      3. Still not getting general membership involvement desired.
        1. Desireable to rotate folks through various committees
        2. Need to communicate with general membership better.
        3. Committee chairs to contact others to see if we can get more active involvement.

    3. Other Business/Committee Reports: 
      1. The VFW is sponsoring their 7th annual “Poker Run” on 6 August. It was moved and seconded to provide a $100 sponsorship of this event. The motion carried unanimously. The $100 covers a rider plus a “hand.”
    1. Adjournment:  There being no further business, the board of directors meeting of the High Country Military Officers Association, Inc. was adjourned at 1250 to meet again at the call of the President.
